ROCKFORD Authorities on Friday said they have completed investigations into a pair of recent police shootings, including the April 10 fatal shooting of Faustin Guetigo, 27. Winnebago-Boone County Integrity Task Force Commander Chuck Davidson handed over the results of the investigations to Winnebago County State s Attorney J. Hanley. In addition to the shooting of Guetigo by a Winnebago County sheriff s deputy, the task force also was investigating the nonfatal April 11 shooting of Jose J. Gonzalez Jr., 19, by a Rockford Police Department officer. It is now up to Hanley to review the evidence in both cases to determine if any police officers should be charged with a crime. ....
ROCKFORD Investigations into two recent shootings by Winnebago County Sheriff s Department deputies and a Rockford Police Department officer could take another four to six months to conclude, officials said Thursday. Detectives from area departments assigned to the Winnebago-Boone County Integrity Task Force are investigating the fatal April 10 shooting of Faustin Guetigo, 27, and the non-fatal April 11 shooting of Jose Gonzalez, 19. Their findings will help Winnebago County State s Attorney J. Hanley determine if the shootings were lawful. Hanley stressed that information he has released, and videos released by the respective law enforcement agencies, was part of an effort to be as transparent as possible. Some carried signs while others chanted “No justice, no peace” and “Black lives matter.” The demonstrators crossed the Rock River and marched to the Winnebago County Administration Building on Elm Street, where they scrawled messages of protest on the sidewalk including “They can’t kill us all” and “We want justice.” ....
