Arts Funding: Oregon to receive $803,500


The National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) is recommending an award of $803,500 to the Oregon Arts Commission (OAC) in the first distribution of funds from the American Rescue Plan (ARP).
The emergency rescue funding is designed to support the arts sector as it recovers from the devastating impact of COVID-19. It is part of the $135 million allocated to the Arts Endowment which represents a significant commitment to the arts and a recognition of the value of the arts and culture sector to the nation’s economy and recovery.
“The release of these American Rescue Plan funds marks an important step in the economic recovery of the creative sector,” NEA Acting Chair Ann Eilers said. The knowledge of the Oregon Arts Commission about the arts and culture landscape in Oregon makes it an ideal steward of federal dollars. High Desert Museum's 'Kids Curate' exhibit features Jewell Elementary students' work

Kids Curate, an exhibition created by fifth-grade students from R.E. Jewell Elementary School in Bend, opens Friday, May 7 at the High Desert Museum.
Kids Curate is a year-long program that integrates art and science into existing school curriculum and culminates in an exhibition at the museum, this year on display through June 6.
Museum curators work with a different Central Oregon school every year in both the classroom and through field trips to produce an exhibition. The program integrates art, science, history and writing, giving students an opportunity to learn about arts and culture career possibilities while simultaneously exploring the natural world. ....

Klamath Falls high school senior to compete in national poetry out loud competition


KLAMATH FALLS, Ore An Oregon Charter Academy high school senior in Klamath Falls, is advancing to the national poetry out loud competition after being crowned state champion.
Tabarjah Neal won the 2021 Oregon Poetry Out Loud competition held virtually last Saturday against 12 other participants. She recited  “Y2K” by Therese Lloyd, “Carnival” by Rebecca Lindenberg and “Bereavement” by William Lisle Bowles according to the Oregon Arts Commission.
According to the Commission in a press release,  “Poetry Out Loud is a national recitation contest for high school students, organized in Oregon by the Oregon Arts Commission in collaboration with the NEA and the Poetry Foundation. Participants memorize and present poems, practicing public speaking skills while exploring the complexity of poetry.” ....
