State House insider gets $50K severance from General Assembly before heading to RIPTA

PROVIDENCE  Before Frank Montanaro made his leap to his  most recent public-sector job, his last employer, the Rhode Island legislature, cut him a severance check of close to $50,000.
The $49,877.02 severance payment reflects roughly 10 weeks of unused vacation time and 203 hours of unpaid work during the Sundlun-era  financial crisis in the early 1990s,  when state workers were promised compensation  after they left state employ. ....

Police & Fire: Main and Columbia without traffic signal after crash

TRAFFIC LIGHTS RESTORED: Traffic signals at the intersection of Main Street and Columbia Avenue in Emmett Township were disabled Wednesday morning in a traffic crash, according to the Emmett Township Department of Public Safety. Crews from the City of Battle Creek Signal Division and the Michigan Department of Transportation worked  with temporary stop signs at the intersection. The signal was restored by around 3:30 p.m. Emmett Township police reported the crash at 7:27 a.m. when an eastbound vehicle crossed the center line and hit a westbound vehicle and one of them crashed into a pole, dropping the traffic signals to the pavement. ....

ELMHURST, IL In the last few days, Elmhurst police have handled cases involving workplace harassment, the battery of an officer, a college fight, a garbage fire, a man following a woman from a park, shoplifting, an egging, downtown damage, a stolen car and DUIs. Here is information from the latest police reports:
Employee alleges harassment
An employee at Edward-Elmhurst Health Center, 755 N. York St., told police Thursday she had been the victim of sexual harassment by another employee at work. She said she would contact human resources and was willing to sign a complaint against the suspect. ....

PROVIDENCE  Frank A. Montanaro s days at the State House have been numbered since former House Speaker Nicholas Mattiello was defeated at the polls in November. 
After months of rumors about where he might land, the former state representative from Cranston and namesake son of a once-powerful labor leader put in his last day at the State House on Friday.
He left quietly, without fanfare in a state capitol building still closed to the public.
Montanaro headed business operations for Rhode Island s $46-million-a-year General Assembly. ....
