The 26th Annual Pink Triangle By Patrick Carney– The Pink Triangle has been installed atop Twin Peaks in San Francisco for each Pride since 1996 as a visible, yet mute, reminder of inhumanity. It is almost 200 feet across, nearly an acre in size, and can be seen for 20 miles. But why is it still necessary? It is an educational tool and a warning for all to see. Each year while planning takes place for the giant display and ceremony, it is important to remember why the Pink Triangle must return to the top of Twin Peaks. Just like clockwork, clear reminders pop up in the news time and time again. The debate over transportation equity has heated up, given the sharp change in transit-rider demographics once the COVID-19 pandemic took most whiter and wealthier riders off of buses and (especially) trains. Not everyone sees eye-to-eye on just what transportation equity means. But a growing number of social-justice activists, urbanists and even transit-industry professionals now argue that making transit free for all should be one of the tools used to make transportation more equitable. Kansas City, Missouri, got the conversation started at the end of 2019 when its city council voted to make the city’s bus system fare-free. Now some of the nation’s biggest transit agencies are wondering whether to make mass transit free for everyone, or at least a lot cheaper to ride than it is now. ....

UPDATE: Coast Guard Searching For Driver Who Jumped Off Bay Bridge After Major Crash; All WB Lanes Reopened CBS SF Bay Area 3/11/2021 Syndicated Local – CBS San Francisco SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) – A search was underway for a driver who jumped off the San Francisco/Oakland Bay Bridge after a multi-car crash that prompted the shutdown of westbound lanes for almost an hour. All lanes have been reopened, but according to the California Highway Patrol, the U.S. Coast Guard is still searching for the individual. The crash near the center anchorage, just west of Treasure Island was reported at 6:56 p.m., according to the CHP. ....
State officials warn Bay Area s stay-at-home order likely to be extended Published Elissa Harrington reports. Stay-at-home orders currently in effect in the Bay Area and three other California regions likely will remain in place past the minimum three-week duration, state officials affirmed Friday. The state s stay-at-home order is triggered when a region s average intensive care unit capacity falls below 15 percent. The Bay Area, greater Sacramento, the San Joaquin Valley and Southern California are under the order at present, the California Department of Public Health said. The earliest date the Bay Area may become eligible to exit the order is Jan. 8, the state department said. Greater Sacramento could become eligible to exit the order as early as Jan. 1, while San Joaquin and Southern California could possibly become eligible this coming Monday, Dec. 28. ....
