Council endorsed a heritage designation for the whole of Lakeview Park and the Second Marsh under the Ontario Heritage Act at its March 29, 2021 meeting. Regional and City Councillor Brian Nicholson says this is a “signature motion” for the city to give these sites heritage designations, who notes the reaction from the community has been universal in support of the designations. ....
Oshawa may be getting a bike park Posted on March 17, 2021 by oshawaexpress in CITY, NEWS By Courtney Bachar/The Oshawa Express/LJI Reporter Oshawa City Council has chosen a preferred alternative site for a potential bike park to replace the current unsanctioned bike park in north Oshawa. Council recently endorsed Thornton Road Community Park as the preferred alternative site which could potentially include sports fields and a BMX facility. “I’m sure by this point it’s been recognized by the outpouring in the petition and by general demand here that the need and the recommendation for a bike park has been fulfilled here,” says Steven Lind, the person behind a petition that has garnered more than 6,500 in favour of having a bike park in Oshawa. ....
Flight schools continue at Oshawa Airport, despite lockdown Posted on January 8, 2021 by oshawaexpress in CITY, COVID-19, NEWS Despite a province-wide lockdown, flight schools at the Oshawa Executive Airport will continue for in-person instruction for flight time when required. As the Oshawa Airport is regulated by Transport Canada under the federal government, and the federal government has not restricted any domestic aviation activity, both private and business domestic aircraft activity can continue to take place during the lockdown. The Oshawa Airport is home to two flight schools – Durham Flight Centre and Canadian Flight Academy. In addition to the federal aviation regulations, these schools are also regulated by the Ontario Ministry of Colleges and Universities as private career colleges, according to the airport. ....
