PennDOT to Rehabilitate Historic Brower's Bridge in Chester County : CEG

Brower s Bridge in East Nantmeal and Warwick townships will be upgraded by the state.
Construction began Feb. 22 on a project to rehabilitate Brower s Bridge, a historic 117-year-old bridge carrying Mansion Road over the south branch of French Creek in Warwick and East Nantmeal townships, Chester County, according to the
Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT).
Due to the nature of construction, Mansion Road is closed and vehicle traffic detoured 24/7 between Reading Furnace Road/James Mill Road and PA Route 401 (Conestoga Road). PennDOT said the rehab work is scheduled to be completed in late May, at which time the road and bridge will reopen. ....

In this winter of our COVID discontent, we have something exciting to look for at our feeders. According to the National Audubon website, this winter is “one of the biggest irruption years of boreal birds in recent memory.”
As you have no doubt noticed, conifers have “mast” years when cones are plentiful and other years when they produce very few cones. Conifers’ primary predators are squirrels and it is thought that these irregular cycles of lean years keep the population of squirrels in control.
When cone crops are meager in Canada, as they are this winter, many squirrels will not survive the winter. But birds that rely on conifer seeds for winter food can fly south in search of food. ....

A Cobb County ambulance crew was able to complete its 12-hour shift despite being involved in two crashes after life-saving mission.
MARIETTA, Ga - It was quite a day for a paramedic and EMT from MetroAtlanta Ambulance service. Their ambulance was struck by two cars in two separate wrecks, and that s not even how their day started. Still, the crew stuck it out for their full 12-hour shift and chalked it up to just another day in emergency services.
The crew s first call of the day on Friday was regarding a man stuck on the railroad tracks. He had fallen and couldn t get back up. Fortunately, the CSX train operator saw him and stopped the train in the nick of time. Still, the man needed medical attention. The ambulance crew along with Marietta Police and Fire hiked close to half a mile down the tracks to get to him and carry him out. ....

Who has appeared at the local courts?

A Rowley Regis man has been given a suspended jail sentence after admitting weapons charges. Daemon Maher, aged 36 of Harvest Road, pleaded guilty to ‘buying or acquiring a weapon that discharged electricity’, and having an extendable baton in St Giles Avenue. He was sentenced to 20 weeks in prison, suspended for 18 months, and ordered to pay £313 in costs. Magistrates said the offences were serious, but the weapons were not used in dangerous circumstances.
Other recent cases at Dudley Magistrates Court included:
A Cradley man caught with a lock knife in Lye has been jailed for six months and two weeks. Mark Anthony Edwards, aged 35, of St Annes Court, denied the offence but was found guilty. He admitted breaching the terms of a previous suspended sentence of 12 weeks for failing to provide a breath test when suspected of drink-driving, and failing to surrender to custody while on bail. He was ordered to pay £149 costs. ....
