Lagos traffic team impounds 200 trucks, as gridlock persists along Oshodi-Apapa expressway

Lagos Special Traffic Management Team has impounded at least 200 trucks in the last 48 hours in the Apapa axis for flouting the directive of the newly introduced electronic Call-Up System as well as indiscriminate parking on the road.
Meanwhile, gridlock has continued on the ever-busy Oshodi Apapa Expressway, despite the current effort to decongest the road as trucks and fuel tankers took over the road.
Residents, motorists and other road users were held up in traffic for several hours to get to their destinations.
Enforcement agents were nowhere to be found on the road as only men of the Nigerian Customs Service, truckers and members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, were seen controlling traffic around Mle-2 and Otto Wharf area along Oshodi Apapa Expressway. ....

There seems to be no respite in sight on the perennial gridlock along the Apapa/Oshodi Expressway, Lagos, as all entry and exit points of the route from Ijesha to Berger Yard end, on Wednesday, were completly blocked due to the activities of recalcitrant truck drivers and miscreants.
Ironically, the newly created Lagos State Traffic Management Team, by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and other traffic officials saddled with the responsibility of controlling traffic along the axis, were on the sideline leaving motorists at the mercy of miscreants and commercial motorcyclists, called “Okada” riders, leading to a total gridlock for several hours. ....

COMMUTERS were trapped for hours in the perennial gridlock along the Oshodi/Apapa Expressway, yesterday, as the Policemen, the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, and officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, could not control the chaotic traffic situation on the axis.
From Jakande bus-stop, inward Apapa to Otto-Wharf, a journey that ought to take three minutes, took close to six hours.
Vanguard observed that the newly created exit point at Freedom bus-stop, in front of the Ports and Terminal Multi-purpose, was blocked, a situation that rendered policemen, FRSC personnel, and LASTMA officials helpless. ....
