View Comments Phoenix artist Isaac Caruso is leading the project to replace an iconic central Phoenix mural and he invites the community to help this weekend. The mural going up will replace “The Prayer of St. Francis,” a mural painted by Rose Johnson in 1998. Johnson’s mural was covered earlier this year. The Civitan Foundation, a nonprofit that provides job training and employment for individuals with disabilities, owns the building that houses the mural and has sought community input for what will be painted in its place. According to a press release the building will be the future home of a thrift store, coffee shop, art gallery and restaurant. ....
Community Mural Painting Civitan Foundation is inviting community members to join artist Isaac Caruso in painting a mural at 1546 East Edgemont Avenue in the Coronado neighborhood between 7 and 11 a.m. on Friday and Saturday, May 7 and 8. Arizona Commission on the Arts Arts Commission Change Jaime Dempsey is leaving her position as executive director for Arizona Commission on the Arts, a state agency designed to foster the creative and professional development of the arts sector, in June. Dempsey will assume the newly created position of senior vice president for philanthropic initiatives with Arizona Community Foundation, which facilitates philanthropy in many sectors, including arts and culture. As of this writing, the commission had not announced its specific plans for conducting an open search to fill the executive director position.
