Ames Tribune Story City s newest seafood company, Midland Co., has been awarded a statewide small business of the month award from America’s Small Business Development Center Iowa. The business, which is located in Story City s old factory outlet mall and occupies 20,000 square feet, uses sustainable, environmentally friendly methods to raise shrimp in the Midwest. Owner Jackson Kimle participated in ISU s Agricultural Entrepreneurship Initiative and ISU Startup Factory programs, according to the release. America s SBDC Iowa is a program between Iowa State University’s Ivy College of Business and the Office of Economic Development and Industry Relations. Jackson has been working with the SBDC center at Iowa State University since June of 2019 when they were interested in applying for funding from the Wellmark Community Venture Capital Fund, the release states.
