Napier-based Hawke s Bay Protein pleaded guilty in Napier District Court on Friday to discharging a contaminant, mainly odour, from its premises in Awatoto on five different occasions, in breach of the Resource Management Act. The company was fined $38,500 by Judge Melanie Dickey. Hawke s Bay Protein operates a rendering plant and holds a resource consent that allows it to discharge contaminants into the air, including odour from three biofilters. ....

Te Awamutu Courier A group of volunteers have been trapping around South and North lake at the Rotopiko complex, between Te Awamutu and Ōhaupō on SH 3, for the last five years, but access to trap areas is becoming overgrown and help is needed to keep it clear. The trapping is undertaken with support from NZ Landcare Trust and National Wetland Trust and is aimed at improving wetland biodiversity around these lakes and protecting any birds that are moving out from inside the predator-proof fence around East lake. ....

The vote was unanimous during Monday s meeting. The board also voted to submit two waivers. The first is a Missed School Days waiver to the Texas Education Agency for the missed days. If accepted, the district would not have to make up the missed instruction time. The second waiver is to receive credit for instructional minutes on February 12. The day was deemed a virtual learning day by the district. ....
