Martin Family Park was named in honor of longtime Bluffton altruists Ida and Jacob Martin.
The 1.47-acre parcel at 68 Boundary St., was acquired by the town in October 2016. The spot in the heart of Bluffton s historic district is now a large greenspace with benches and an accompanying parking lot. 
Ida Martin is known locally for founding a pair of charitable staples: Bluffton Self Help, founded in 1987, and the Historic Campbell Chapel AME Church Soup Kitchen, founded in 2012  a year before her death at 90.
Martin was awarded the Presidential Citizens Medal in 2011 by President Barack Obama. The nation’s second-highest civilian honor recognizes Americans who perform “exemplary deeds of service.” In 1990, she was named South Carolina Volunteer of the Year. ....

Ida Martin needs your help collecting memories of Indian Day School students on Six Nations. Martin is asking the community to submit as many photographs as she can get to make and print photo albums of each other the 20 Indian Day Schools on Six Nations from the 1800’s to 1997. “I’m asking that all Six Nations members collect their old class pictures, individual pictures and also teams, school teams pictures and any clippings we could have and I want them to submit them and then a photo album will be made for each one of day schools,” she said. Martin presented the idea at a Six Nations Elected Council (SNEC) general council meeting on March 9 and asked for $10,000 funding to help with printing, advertising and cost of… ....
