Committee members will reconvene on Thursday morning to debate their next steps. The complaint was lodged by a 19-year-old legislative intern who said the legislator forced her to perform oral sex on him during a date in March. Boise Police have investigated, but no legal charges have yet been filed. Committee members say the hearing is not to determine whether von Ehlinger is guilty of a crime, but to determine if he violated House rules in having a sexual relationship with the woman and whether he should be disciplined. ....

Aaron von Ehlinger, a Republican from Lewiston, leaves office on the same day that a legislative ethics committee recommended that he be expelled. On Wednesday, members of the Idaho House Ethics Committee heard testimony detailing Representative Aaron von Ehlinger’s encounter with the 19-year-old woman who accused him of raping her. Von Ehlinger admitted he took the woman to dinner and to his apartment, but he wouldn’t comment on any sexual activity that occurred. That was cited by Ethics Committee chairman Rep. Sage Dixon [R-Ponderay] in his response Thursday morning. ....

The bill received a majority vote of 28-7 in the legislature was subsequently sent to Little’s desk. It bans educators from forcing students to “affirm, adopt or adhere to” any teachings that profess that an existing identity group is inherently superior or inferior to another or responsible for any historical wrongs associated with their identity group. SPR s Doug Nadvornick reports. As Idaho’s legislature moves to the end of its session, lawmakers have said yes to a new Medicaid budget and then no to money for more Covid testing in schools. Rep. Paul Amador [R-Coeur d Alene] stuck his tongue in his cheek when introduced the state’s proposed $3.7 billion Medicaid budget. “This is everybody’s favorite budget so I’m privileged to carry it today, he said. Medicaid is the state medical program for people with lower incomes. Amador acknowledged it’s a lot of money. “I think all of us are probably frustrated with out-of-control spending related to Medicaid and that primarily is based upon enrollment growth and policies that have been adopted by the state and by the federal government related to Medicaid, Amador said. ....
