Lions 7-on-7 competes in first state qualifier at Graham Saturday

[Photo by Derrick Stuckly]For the first time since the summer of 2019, the Brownwood Lions on Saturday will compete in a 7-on-7 state qualifying tournament. The Lions – who have advanced to the 7-on-7 state tournament for 20 consecutive years dating back to 2000 – will venture to Graham as 7-on-7 football has resumed this year after the COVID-19 pandemic ended last year’s season before it ever started. Saturday’s Graham qualifier is being split over two locations – Newton Field in Graham and Porcupine Stadium in Springtown. The Lions will compete in Pool B in Graham with games at 9:45 a.m., 11:15 a.m. and 12:45 p.m. against Krum, Wichita Falls Hirschi and Dumas.

Print this article A Republican congressman and Army veteran is seeking answers from the U.S. Military Academy about “elements of critical race theory” being made part of instruction for cadets at West Point, including seminars on “systemic racism” and presentation slides discussing “White Power” and “Racist Dog Whistles.” Rep. Michael Waltz of Florida, a former Green Beret and Afghanistan War veteran, sent a letter to West Point’s superintendent, Lt. Gen. Darryl Williams, telling him, “Information has recently come to my attention from unsettled soldiers, cadets, and families that raises serious concerns about the U.S. Army’s introduction of elements of critical race theory into cadet instruction.
