It has been two years or so since the last ISC West trade show, the biggest security show in the U.S. market. The coronavirus pandemic has caused a year’s worth of trade show cancellations, and the trend will continue for a while longer. The absence of trade shows has been transformative for the security marketplace, among others, as companies implemented a variety of alternative approaches, with mixed results. We asked this week’s Expert Panel Roundtable: What impact has the cancellation of trade shows had on the security industry? The US State Department approved the possible foreign military sale of the Northrop Grumman LAIRCM system on 29 December for an estimated cost of $104 million. The AN/AAQ-24 system will be used on an Airbus A340-200 aircraft. Each LAIRCM system consists of three Guardian Laser Turret Assemblies (GLTA), five Missile Warning Sensors (MWS) and other items. The system provides 360-degree protection against a wide range of missile threats. When it detects a missile launch, it tracks the incoming missile and uses a laser beam to jam the missile’s guidance system. The system is contained almost entirely in a single pod that mounts to the underside of the fuselage and can be moved easily from one aircraft to another. ....

The Foreign Military Sale to the Government of Italy was approved by the U.S. State Department today. According to the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA), Italy s government requested two aircraft and supporting equipment including four Multifunctional Information Distribution Systems – Joint Tactical Radio System (MIDS JTRS), three GPS security devices and four RIO Communications Intelligence Systems. Also included are Missile Warning Sensors, AN/ALE-47 Countermeasure Dispenser Sets (CMDS), MX-20HD Electro-Optical and Infra-Red systems, Osprey 50 AESA Radars, AISREW ISR equipment, Secure Communications equipment, Identification Frie ....
