Blue lights on Sundial Bridge for workers on pandemic anniversary

Blue lights are illuminating the Sundial Bridge this week as the city of Redding pays tribute to front-line workers who ve strived to keep the community safe and healthy from COVID-19 over the past year. Thursday is the one-year anniversary of the World Health Organization s declaration of a global pandemic due to the spread of the virus. Lights at the bridge over the Sacramento River turned blue Monday, which will last through Sunday to recognize the front-line workers who ve made sacrifices to protect the population against the virus. “Front-line workers, from every sector, have never stopped taking care of Redding even with the risk to themselves and their families. Their commitment to caring for our community, especially those who are ill, will get us through this pandemic, Redding Mayor Erin Resner said in a statement. We hope this show of support for them is a reminder of just how much they are appreciated.

Market Street reopened to traffic after almost 50 years. “Forty-nine years ago in 1972, Market Street was closed for the creation of a pedestrian mall,” said Redding Mayor Erin Resner on Wednesday’s grand re-opening. The Circulation Project connects Yuba, Tehama, and Butte Street to Market Street. Businesses along Market Street are really excited hoping this area will attract more people to come, dine, and shop.
