May 7, 2021 BOARDMAN Ernest W. Vaupel, 83, passed away after a struggle with cancer, Tuesday, May 4, 2021, at his home surrounded by his family. Ernest, known by his family and friends as “Ernie,” was born Oct. 13, 1937, in Youngstown, son of the late Harry and Edith Davies Vaupel. He attended South High School in Youngstown and was a lifelong area resident. After high school, Ernie served in the Marine Corps from 1954 to 1957 and received an honorable discharge. After serving in the military, he returned to the Youngstown area and worked for East Ohio Gas Company, retiring as an inspector in 1993, after 30 years of service. ....
POLAND Elena Marchionda, 91, passed away peacefully April 20, 2021, at The Inn at Poland Way. Elena was born March 30, 1930, in Pacentro, Italy, a daughter of Alessandro and Fragolina Celeste Lucci. She came to the United States in 1956 to join her husband, Alberto, who had come to America in 1955. Elena and Alberto were married Dec. 15, 1948, in Pacentro. Elena was a loving and devoted wife and mother who showed unconditional love for her husband and family. When Alberto became ill in 2000, Elena put his needs above her own and provided most of Alberto’s medical care, learning whatever she needed to do in order to keep him in the comfort of their own home. ....

Apr 18, 2021 BOARDMAN Helen F. Sinchak, 85, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday, April 15, 2021 at Hospice House. Helen was born June 13, 1935, in Youngstown, a daughter of the late John and Ann Pesta Klanica. As a child, she unknowingly met the love of her life, Del. They grew up together and then became high school sweethearts at Woodrow Wilson High School, from where they graduated in 1953. They married May 18, 1957 and enjoyed 64 wonderful years together. Helen had several jobs over the years. She started her career as an operator with Ohio Bell before working for many years at Dusi Music, a family-owned business. She finished her career at RL Lipton Distribution before retiring. ....
