LAKE PLACID â Lake Placid appears to be in for another busy summer season this year as tourism officials expect a continuation of last yearâs rubber-tire travel trend. Lake Placid is almost always busy in the summer. The village and town of North Elba host a variety of large-scale sporting events; itâs in close proximity to the High Peaks Wilderness, popular with hikers; and its Main Street is walkable with a variety of businesses and restaurants. Itâs also been a popular vacation destination for generations. Last year, it was unclear if the usual influx of tourists in the summer would still come because of the coronavirus pandemic, and also because the Canadian border was closed to nonessential travel. But in part because Lake Placid is easy for many New Yorkers to drive to, the season was as busy as ever. ....

The decision came after his early morning Cape Air flight to Boston Wednesday, March 3 turned around after 10 minutes and made a safe emergency landing at the Adirondack Regional Airport in Lake Clear. He was one of two passengers on the flight and was heading to Miami. His flight was canceled Tuesday due to high winds, but now after Wednesday’s incident, he plans on staying in the Adirondacks. ....

The next day, she was on the job. Breen was recommended by the Lake Placid/North Elba Community Development Commission’s ad hoc Development Director Group, consisting of Community Development Commission Chairman Dean Dietrich, town Councilor Emily Politi, Lake Placid village Mayor Craig Randall, village Trustee Art Devlin, Peter Roland and Kate Thompson. “She is a soon to be graduate of Cornell Institute for Public Affairs (CIPA) with a Master of Public Affairs and a concentration in environmental policy,” Politi wrote in an email Tuesday after the vote. “She starts tomorrow and one of her first tasks will be to write a press release announcing herself.” ....
