Twenty-one motorcycle riders have died on Virginia roadways in traffic crashes since June 1. Of those, nine have been in single-vehicle crashes.
Virginia State Police is urging all motorists to do their part to share the road responsibly. Passenger and commercial vehicle drivers need to remain alert for motorcyclists due to their size and visibility. When pulling onto or across a roadway or when changing lanes, drivers are especially advised to be on the lookout for motorcycles as they can be obstructed by other vehicles, glare, etc. ....

The Rev. Louis Johnson, pastor of Fairhope Avenue Baptist Church in Loxley, has guided churches through a tornado and a hurricane.

In fact, he’s working on his Ph.D. at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, and he’s planning to write his dissertation on church emergency preparedness.
He’s had plenty of first-hand experience.
When Johnson was a teenager, his home church, Lakeside Baptist, was flooded with eight feet of water in 1994 when Tropical Storm Gordon stalled over Albany, Ga. “That was my first experience with natural disaster,” Johnson said. ....

Pam Tebow, mother of former professional athlete and Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow, will speak Saturday, April 17, at Lakeside Baptist Church in Backus.
Lakeside Baptist will hold a spring ladies fellowship at 1 p.m. that day, and Pam Tebow will be the featured speaker. There will also be door prizes, and coffee and dessert will be served.
All teen girls and adult ladies are invited to attend. Tickets are free, but are required, and are available from the church office or at the Corner Store in Backus. A freewill offering will be taken. ....
