Food Lion opens new store in Gastonia where Bi-Lo used to operate

On Wednesday, Food Lion hosted a grand opening for its latest, and largest, store in the Gastonia area.
Located at 2601 S. New Hope Road, in the shell of an old Bi-Lo building near Ashbrook High School, the new store sports 15 aisles of grocery goods and an expanded deli with grab-and-go options.
It s a gorgeous store, said Debbie Snyder, store manager. Our grand opening was awesome. We had quite a few people. The cool part was our first customer through the door was a former Bi-Lo shopper that everybody knew.
Judy Jackson, of Lowell, returned to the building on Saturday for the first time since Bi-Lo closed. Jackson said she was a loyal shopper of Bi-Lo for roughly 20 years. While she would prefer to see a grocery store open in her town, she was glad to see Food Lion move in and reopen so quickly. ....

LAVALE — Cecil Bell was strong and full of energy. His regular activities ranged from extensive yard work to lifting 50-pound boxes of produce for the local food bank.
He spent much of his time volunteering to help others.
He and his wife, Marsha — a priest associate at Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Cumberland — were childhood friends in Sweeny, Texas, and in 2015 reconnected at their 50-year high school reunion.

Live Nativity scene a source of inspiration for small town

Adairville Mayor Donna Blake said the project is a source of positivity and hope for the community.
“It’s especially important this year,” Blake said. “People are having such a rough time getting into the Christmas spirit due to everything going on, and this is something that people will look forward to seeing.”
The idea of the Nativity scene was made in conjunction with Blake and restaurant owner Deborah Hersch of Ariella Bistro & Bar in Russellville.
Hersch said she had heard that Adairville was a small, impoverished community filled with kind and religious people.
With an estimated population of about 800 people, seven churches can be found in Adairville. ....
