Pilikula Biological Park, Mangaluru, organised a one-week programme focusing on captive breeding of King Cobra between May 24 and May 30 as part of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav initiative of the Union government.
The programmes throughout the week were conducted on online mode with lectures by experts in herpetology and virtual exhibition of drawing/painting, collage making and photographs.

MANGALURU: The Pilikula Biological Park has additional attractions, with arrival of two pairs each of white rhea and brown rhea, along with three swamp deer, said H Jayaprakash Bhandary, director of the park.
Bhandary said that rheas are the largest flightless bird of South America. Swamp deer are also called barasingha, and found in the Indian subcontinent.
The swamp deer is an endangered species, and has arrived from Thiruvananthapuram Zoo, Kerala, in an animal exchange programme.
They were received in exchange for three King Cobras and two pairs of Whitaker’s boa sent to Thiruvananthapuram Zoo, Kerala from Pilikula Zoo. ....

Mangaluru, Dec 23: MRPL, under its corporate environment responsibility expenditure, will be supporting the cause of conservation of biodiversity in Mangaluru.
MRPL and Dr Shivarama Karantha Pilikula Nisargadhama Mangaluru signed MOU on Tuesday December 22 for providing adoption of wild animals in Pilikula Biological Park for a period of 12 months. Elango M, ED (Refinery) and Gokuldas Nayak-ED (DSKND Pilikula) were the signatories.
