The City of Fairfield and Wayne-White Electric Cooperative have reached an agreement on an Electric Operations and Maintenance Contract. The two entities say, beginning January 1, 2022, the co-op will provide all new construction, system improvements, and maintenance on the City’s electric system, and it will also send and collect the electric bill. The agreement is dependent upon Hoosier Energy purchasing the 138 KV and 69 KV transmission systems, and the City Council intends to discuss and vote on the contract at its meeting this coming Tuesday.
35-year-old Fairfield resident Jeremy M.T. Ralston was sentenced yesterday in Wayne County Circuit Court. He pleaded guilty last March to a Class 2 felony count of delivery of less than five grams of meth, and he was sentenced to two years probation, plus time served. Several other cases against him were dismissed per his plea, and Ralston was ordered to pay $4,911 in fines and court costs, including $1,000 in restitution to Gerald ....

Early voting begins today for the consolidated election. Early voting in Wayne County can only be done at the courthouse, but County Clerk Liz Ann Woodrow says the courthouse will not be a polling place on Election Day. Anyone wanting to vote by mail in the election must request a ballot, as letters will not be sent out as they were in November.
Wayne City Unit 100 plans to hold Kindergarten Registration and Pre-School Screenings March 10
th and 11

Career and Technical Education (CTE) prepares individuals for high-skill, in-demand employment that furthers Illinois’ global competitiveness. Last year, about half of all Illinois community college graduates earned a CTE degree or certificate. CTE programs offer flexible scheduling, work-based learning, and stackable credentials that provide a pathway from education to employment not only for recent high school graduates, but also for returning adults, veterans, and workers wanting to update their skills. To ensure that students acquire the skills and knowledge they need to be successful, programs contextualize instruction to the application of skills in the workplace and offer access to state-of-the-art technology. Student success in CTE programming is amplified by academic support services, work-based learning opportunities, and business engagement. The Illinois Eastern Community College Board of Trustees met Tuesday and approved the employment of Amanda Kotch as Coordinator of International Students, Athletics, and Student Activity at Frontier Community College, effective today. Trustees also gave notice of intent to renew the contracts of Chancellor Dr. Ryan Gower and its four college presidents, including FCC President Dr. Jay Edgren.
54-year-old Salem resident Besnik Mehmedi was cited for driving too fast for conditions after a Monday afternoon accident at the intersection of East Main and Northeast Second streets in Fairfield.
