Last month, a new report from the World Wildlife Fund revealed that almost 21,000 monitored populations of mammals, birds, fish, reptiles, and amphibians had experienced an average decline of 68% since 1970. In Latin America and the Caribbean, that number rose to 94%. Only 25% of our planet’s ice-free land is still considered wilderness; the rest has been significantly altered by humankind.
Announcing the Winners of the Feature Shoot Emerging Photography Awards

After reviewing hundreds of outstanding submissions, we’re delighted to announce the thirteen winners of the 6th Annual Feature Shoot Emerging Photography Awards. This year’s jury selected ten photographers to exhibit their work as part of a poster run in select locations throughout the streets of East London. Three photographers were chosen to be part of the FORMAT International Photography Festival in Derby.
The three photographers headed to the FORMAT International Photography Festival in Derby are Florence Goupil, Felix Schoeppner, and Christopher Sims, hailing from Peru, Germany, and the United States, respectively. Learn about all the winners below.

In 2007, Russian President Vladimir Putin was named TIME magazine’s Person of the Year. As then Managing Editor Richard Stengel sat down to pen the now-famous article and photographer Platon shot the austere, unsmiling cover portrait, another photographer, Hungarian-born Bela Doka, was documenting the Russian youngsters who were most touched by the quickly spreading global phenomenon surrounding their president. That same year, Doka unearthed a community of adolescents and young adults known as the Putin Fan Club, a group of more than a thousand individuals who venerated the Russian president to the point where he beat out pop stars and even religious figures for a place in their innermost hearts.
