ELMHURST, IL Amid a controversy, Elmhurst mayoral candidate Mark Mulliner late last week returned a $5,000 contribution given by a group of residents opposed to a restaurant s parking lot plan.
Elmhurst Neighbors United, which opposes the plan by Roberto s Ristorante and Pizzeria, gave the money March 4 and publicly endorsed Mulliner nearly a week later on Facebook.
When Elmhurst Patch contacted Mulliner s campaign Thursday, a spokesman called the endorsement and donation a pleasant surprise. At some point in the next day, the campaign returned it.

ELMHURST, IL Residents opposing a parking lot plan at Roberto s Ristorante & Pizzeria have noted an online petition with hundreds of signatures in support of their cause. But only about a third of signers are Elmhurst residents.
The group, Elmhurst Neighbors United, disclosed its Change.org petition signatures to the city, including the towns of residence of the signers. A copy of the petition is on the city s website.

ELMHURST, IL A restaurant in the Spring Road business district wants to build two parking lots for its business and the next-door office building that it owns.
But neighbors oppose the idea, saying it would increase traffic and flooding and hurt their property values. The matter had been set to go before the city s Planning and Zoning Commission on Tuesday, but on Friday, it was delayed until Jan. 19.
Roberto s Ristorante & Pizzeria, 483 Spring Road, is asking the city for conditional use permits for the parking lots for the restaurant and its office building at 481 Spring Road. The lots would be on the north and south sides of Eggleston Avenue.
