Councilmember Dancy Hosting Virtual Meeting


Neighborhood meetings in Jackson are returning in a virtual format. Second Ward City Councilmember Freddie Dancy has planned a virtual neighborhood meeting for Monday, April 26 at 6 p.m. on the Zoom platform.
Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, Jackson City Councilmembers would hold in-person meetings in their wards to meet with residents and present information on City programs. Councilmember Dancy’s meeting is the first virtual neighborhood meeting to be planned since the pandemic started.
Police activity in the Second Ward and the proposed Neighborhood Association Ordinance will be discussed at the virtual event. Reviewed by the City Council at their last meeting, the ordinance outlines neighborhoods in Jackson and creates a framework for residents to start a neighborhood association that’s affiliated with the City. The ordinance is intended to increase connections amongst neighbors and foster neighborhood identities. Councilmember Dancy says he’d like to hear residen ....

JACKSON, MI A 36-year-old Jackson County man was injured Tuesday in a vehicle fire police said they suspect was caused by the illegal manufacturing of methamphetamine.
Police and firefighters arrived at the Auto Zone parking lot on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Jackson at about 12:23 a.m. April 6, and found the vehicle burning bumper to bumper, Jackson Deputy Director of Fire Services David Wooden said.
While at the scene, police were told a man had shown up at the Henry Ford Allegiance Health Emergency Department with burns on his arms, Jackson Police and Fire Services Director Elmer Hitt said. The man was transferred to the University of Michigan Hospital for further medical treatment, Hitt said. ....

Attorney-client privilege violated in Jackson County arson case, appeals court says

JACKSON, MI – The Jackson Police Department and Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office knowingly violated attorney-client privilege in the arson case against LGBTQ rights activist Nikki Joly, the Michigan Court of Appeals has ruled.
Joly, 56, is accused of intentionally starting the Aug. 10, 2017 fire that destroyed his home in the 1800 block of Pringle Avenue and killed his two German shepherd dogs and three cats.
Joly sent set an email to an employee at Abood Law Firm, which is representing him, that said who he gave his lawn mower and gas can to, the court said in an unanimous March 11 opinion. Jackson Police Det. Aaron Grove believed those two items were connected to the fire and used the email to get a search warrant and get the items. ....
