Father, daughter graduate together from CTC

BELTON â A father and his daughter shared a special moment during Central Texas Collegeâs first of two spring graduation ceremonies held at the Bell County Expo Center in Belton on Friday.
Dressed in matching blue caps and gowns, Krista Helms, 22, and her father, Erik Helms, 41, both graduated with associate degrees from Central Texas College Friday.
âItâs taken me almost 42 years to get here,â Erik Helms said.
After 20 years of military service, Erik Helms said he was excited to set his sights on his original goal of graduating college.
âThis was something Iâve always wanted to do for myself, but Iâve always had to take care of my family first,â he said. ....

In the heart of the Santa Cruz Mountains is one of the prettiest parks in the greater Bay Area, Loch Lomond Recreation Area, which was missed by last year’s CZU Lightning Complex fires and is now weathering the drought, too.
Loch Lomond is best known for being 3 miles long but very narrow, set in a deep canyon and edged by redwoods and Douglas firs that rise on the surrounding slopes. The forest there resembles a sea of conifers. Hikes lead to lookouts for sweeping views of the lake and forests, as well as to a grove of old-growth redwoods. ....
