At least three, incumbent Omaha City Council members secured victories in Tuesday s city election, but it will be Friday before we know the full make-up of the new city council.When counting ended Tuesday, North Omaha District 2 Council member Ben Gray s chances of a fourth term looked grim, and Northwest Omaha District 7 Council member Aimee Melton held a 934 vote lead over Sara Kohen. Melbourne’s north west and southern suburbs will soon see another injection of police in the community, with the latest deployment numbers announced today.
Westgate Division, which includes Hobsons Bay, Maribyrnong and Wyndham Police Service Areas, will receive the lion’s share for the regions, with 44 more police set to be stationed in the area.
Dandenong Division, which includes Casey, Cardinia and Greater Dandenong Police Service Areas, will see 38 officers deployed as part of this allocation.
In the state’s east, Knox Division will have 14 police allocated to the Yarra Ranges and Knox Police Service Areas, and in the west, Ballarat will receive 11 for the Pyreness and Moorabool areas. ....

Voters heading to polls today to select local leaders

Area voters are heading to the polls today to select leadership for city councils and school boards.
Voters may want to bring an umbrella as they head out to vote as rain chances in Killeen today are 90%, according to the National Weather Service. Todayâs high is expected to be 71, while the low is 63.
Thirteen candidates are running for four Killeen City Council seats up for grabs.
The winners will become part of the city council, making decisions on Killeenâs future and deciding how Killeen taxpayer money should be spent.
The Killeen school board has four people running for two seats. Those elected will decide how children are educated for years to come. ....

New plant to begin pumping Killeen drinking water soon

Killeenâs $30 million investment in a new water treatment plant at Stillhouse Hollow Lake will soon begin paying off as water officials estimate the plant will be fully operational sometime in June.
The water treatment plantâs estimated June ribbon cutting date was announced at the Bell County Water Improvement District No. 1 workshop and subsequent board meeting Wednesday morning.
The new treatment plant will produce some 17 million gallons of drinkable water per day. The city of Killeenâs $30 million investment in the $60 million plant gives it rights to at least 10 million gallons of water per day from the new plant. The plant was originally slated for opening months ago, but repairs to a large water main deep underground have hampered its completion. ....
