Speaking to media in a conference call Wednesday, Carmela Coyle of the California Hospital Association said 58% of the state s hospitals operated in the red in 2020, up from 40% a year earlier, according to a financial analysis released by health-care management consultant Kaufman Hall. (KYMA, KECY) - Imperial County Public Health Department held its COVID-19 update Thursday along with Pioneers Memorial Health District (PMHD) and El Centro Regional Medical Center (ECRMC). There has been a slight uptick in COVID-19 hospitalizations in the Valley. However, the number of COVID-19 patients is still trending down. Even with a minor setback, Imperial County could avoid stepping back into the red or more restrictive tier if numbers continue to improve.

Head injury victim died of heart attack, brother says A man who died Monday at El Centro Regional Medical Center after being found unconscious with a head injury in a driveway of the 400 block of Neckel Road actually died from a heart attack, according to a family member. Russel Reeves left his job at Western Mesquite Mines early Monday about 8:15 a.m. after he reportedly began feeling ill, according to a family member who identified himself as his brother, Jarrad Reeves. Jarrad Reeves said Russel took about two steps from his pickup after arriving home when he apparently collapsed and hit the back of his head, resulting in the head injury.
