ALBANY Fun’s over for the UAlbany men’s lacrosse team.
The Great Danes grabbed footballs instead of sticks when they took to the practice field last Friday for an hour and a half of spirited two-hand touch, then got the weekend off to play golf some performing well, others “personally, not that great,” senior attack Ron John said, referring to himself with a laugh.
But fun time is over, and crunch time has started for UAlbany, with three games in eight days to close the regular season, by virtue of the big rematch game at Vermont having been postponed from April 16 to April 28. ....

ALBANY There was a grim determination to move past this week, when UAlbany’s most talented player was dismissed from the team.
And a grim determination to move into the next week, when the Great Danes travel to the Carrier Dome to play No. 4-ranked Syracuse.
The UAlbany men’s lacrosse team dismantled UMass Lowell 17-6 at Fallon Field on Saturday, as Graydon Hogg scored six goals, goalie Liam Donnelly and freshman faceoff specialist Regan Endres were brilliant and 10 different players had at least one goal. ....

ALBANY No time like the present for the UAlbany men’s lacrosse offense to kick into gear.
The Great Danes (2-0) scored 16 in a convincing victory at Hartford last week, but started slow, and face an opponent this week, 1-2 Vermont, that may not be as forgiving as Hartford was.
The Catamounts played catchup last week against Syracuse, but stayed with the No. 7-ranked Orange for the duration of a 17-13 loss, and will throw a big, physical defense at the Great Danes when they square off at 3 p.m. on Saturday at John Fallon Field. ....

Elijah Gash a Diamond in the Rough at Albany

Elijah Gash a Diamond in the Rough at Albany
Fri Mar 12 2021 | Nelson Rice | College
Elijah Gash collected the ground ball and saw an open lane of turf in front of him. He didn’t hesitate, sprinting from Albany’s restraining line and into the offensive end. He face dodged one Hartford defenseman, then ran over another to score his first Division I goal and give Albany a 13-5 lead midway through the fourth quarter.
The Great Danes went nuts after the long pole goal. The Hawks called a timeout to regroup.
“I grew up wanting to play at the highest level, and I’m here now,” Gash said earlier this week after the 16-6 win. “Just being able to celebrate with the guys after [the goal] was unreal. I can’t really explain it, you know?”  ....
