OSWEGO â The Oswego County Office for the Aging and Oswego Health recently initiated the âPowerful Tools for Caregiversâ course, a series of classes designed to help caregivers take better care of themselves while caring for a friend or relative. The six-week, evidence-based course teaches caregivers skills that address challenges such as stress management, handling oneâs emotions, positive self-talk, communication, holding family meetings and transitions. âThis course gives family caregivers the tools they need to take care of themselves while caring for someone else,â said Sara Sunday, director of the Oswego County Office for the Aging. âWhen you take care of your own health and well-being, you become a better caregiver. This curriculum is taught by experienced facilitators in six class sessions.â ....

OSWEGO COUNTY – Are you a senior 60 years of age or older and in need of some food assistance? The Oswego County Office for the Aging continues to distribute “30 Days of Food” boxes to seniors who may have a hard time shopping for food items during the pandemic and snowy weather. The boxes, which were donated by members of the community over the past several months, contain canned goods and shelf-stable items to help seniors in need. The boxes also include information on local food pantries as well as the Home-Delivered Meals program. ....
OSWEGO â Ten residents of the city of Oswego have been named âHometown Heroesâ for their selfless contributions to the community, the committee formed to establish this inaugural event recently announced. âVolunteering to improve the lives of our fellow residents is not exclusive to the city of Oswego,â said Mayor William J. Barlow, âbut we honor and celebrate these individuals like few communities do,â added Barlow. âHometown Heroes,â jointly sponsored by the city of Oswego was launched for the first time earlier this month as a way to recognize individuals from the city of Oswego who quietly go about improving the lives of others through their generosity, energy, and spirit. The idea was the brainchild of Oswego Police Department Community Policing members Chelsea Giovo and Steve Carroll. ....
