Oswego County Office of the Aging celebrates Older Americans Month with Communities of Strength campaign

OSWEGO â In tough times, people find strength in their communities â and communities find strength in their people. Oswego County residents have seen this happen time and time again in the past year as friends, neighbors and businesses have found new ways to support each other.
âIn our community, older adults are a key source of this strength,â said Sara Sunday, director of the Oswego County Office for the Aging. âThrough their experiences, successes and difficulties, they have built a resilience that helps them face new challenges. When communities tap into this, they become stronger too.â
Each May, the U.S. Administration for Community Living leads the celebration of Older Americans Month. This yearâs theme âCommunities of Strengthâ recognized the important role older adults play in fostering the connections and engagements that build strong, resilient communities. ....

It was jubilation galore as 27 kidnapped students of the Federal College of Forestry Mechanisation, Kaduna were reunited with their families after 56 days in captivity.
Tears of joy flowed freely from both parents and their children. At about 3pm, the entire premises of the college, located along the Kaduna International Airport, opposite the Nigerian Defence Academy, erupted in jubilation as the students were being escorted by heavily-armed policemen in company with the state Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, and the state Commissioner of Police, Umar Muri.
Narrating their ordeal in the kidnappers’ den, one of the freed students, Zakariya Magaji, described the kidnappers’ den as hell, saying he would never wish the experience for his enemies. ....

One of the freed students of the Federal College of Forestry Mechanisation, Afaka, Kaduna state, Sarah Sunday has recounted their ordeals in the hands of their abductors saying they suffered a lot. She however said they have forgiven their abductors.
The students were abducted when gunmen attacked their school on March 12. Although 39 of them were kidnapped during the attack, 10 of the students were earlier released.
However, on Wednesday, the remaining students were released after seven weeks in captivity.
The students, who had earlier been taken for medical check-up by the state government, were reunited with their family members on Friday. ....
