STAMFORD – Life isn’t always easy. But getting through life as a teenager – dealing with the emotional challenges of transitioning between childhood and adulthood – can be especially difficult, even in the best of times. Add to that the stresses created by the COVID-19 pandemic, and the level of angst and anxiety among teens is amped up even further.
Well aware that many teens were struggling with mental health issues and, moreover, that they did not feel comfortable sharing their experiences with others, BCHA Upper School principal Rabbi Shimmy Trencher, school counselor Angela Wilson, and special programs coordinator Ilana Bauman put their heads together and came up with an idea to give a voice to these students – and others like them – by bringing mental health awareness to the entire student body. ....

Donald Trump's final gift to NJ: Crony justice for connected pals

Donald Trump left the White House last week without grabbing a get-out-of-jail-card for himself or his family, but he handed them out like confetti in New Jersey to those with political connections.
Call it justice for those with juice, prisoners or those with convictions who could appeal to someone or groups who could appeal directly to Trump.
The strategy paid off for a political power broker from Ocean County, a friend and former donor who stood trial with Sen. Bob Menendez and was convicted in a separate case, and a convicted Ponzi-scheme swindler from Lakewood.
Trump accelerated his brand of crony justice after the election, dispensing pardons to everyone from disgraced New Jersey developer Charles Kushner the father of Jared Kushner, Trump s top adviser and his son-in-law to a slew of former associates swept up in the Mueller investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election. ....

Trump Grants Early-Morning Pardons

(www.theyeshivaworld.com) President Donald Trump, in the waning hours of his presidency, granted clemency to 143 people, but did not preemptively pardon himself or his family.
Two of those pardoned are Eli Weinstein of Lakewood and Sholom Weiss, formerly of Borough Park. Weiss was the recipient of what is believed to be the longest-ever white-collar prison sentence more than 800 years in prison in 2000.
Weinstein is currently serving his eighth year of a 24-year sentence for a real estate investment fraud.
President Trump also granted a full pardon to Alex Adjmi who, in 1996, was convicted of a financial crime and served five years in prison. Aviem Sella, former handler of Jonathan Pollard, was also granted a full pardon. Sella is an Israeli citizen who was indicted in 1986 for espionage in relation to the Pollard case. Elliott Broidy, former deputy national finance chair of the Republican National Committee, also received a full pardon by the outgoing president. Presi ....

Eliyahu “Eli” Weinstein, a 45-year-old former used car salesman from Lakewood, had a history of preying on others in his tight-knit Orthodox Jewish community, authorities said.
He ran a $200 million Ponzi scheme involving a virtual portfolio of fake real estate investments and land deals, authorities said. Then while awaiting trial in what was called one of the largest cases of fraud they’d encountered, he struck again with a new con game.
