Prosecutors and media smear 13-year-old killed by Chicago police Anticipating mass protests over the summary execution of 13-year-old Adam Toledo by Chicago police on March 29, prosecutors from the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, city officials and local media are seeking to portray the boy as a hardened gang member, justifying the police murder. Despite these attempts to shift blame away from the Chicago Police Department (CPD), Toledo’s death has shed further light on the lawlessness and brutality that characterize police operations in working class neighborhoods. The city and police department have continued to stonewall, refusing to release police body camera footage of the killing to the public. But Jhaveri was fired after she “sent a tweet responding to the fact that mass shooters are most likely to be white men” a tweet she now calls “a careless error of judgment” and deleted. Jhaveri wrote on Medium about what happened when her tweet was picked up by the alt-right. USA Today, like so many other newsrooms, has been vocal about trumpeting its commitment to diversity, equality and inclusion. And yet, doing the actual work of diversity, equality and inclusion necessitates engaging with complicated structural issues that should make white audiences uncomfortable. In this case, after I made one mistake, the company contradicted their commitment to DEI and wilted upon c ....
Chicago Tribune Condemned For Op-Ed On Adam Toledo, 13, Being Shot Dead By Police On 4/8/21 at 5:04 AM EDT The Chicago Tribune has been criticized for publishing an opinion piece which suggests that the facts need to come out about the police shooting of a 13-year-old Black boy before attempting to portray him as a martyr. According to a police statement, the department s ShotSpotter technology detected multiple shots being fired in the 2300 block of S. Sawyer at around 2:36 a.m. ....
