DARLINGTON won a penalty shoot-out to go into the last 32 of the Buildbase FA Trophy.
Quakers took the lead after just five minutes, when Dan Maguire, a late replacement for Luke Charman who was injured in the warm up, controlled a long clearance by Melvin Minter and set up Jarrett Rivers to score his fourth goal of the season.
Telford, who scored ten in midweek, then created several chances and Minter pulled off three good saves, before they broke through in first-half stoppage time when Aaron Williams headed in a right-wing cross.
Erico Sousa hit the post for Quakers straight after the break, but at the other end Minter pulled off an excellent full length save from a hotly-disputed Aaron Williams penalty. ....

DARLINGTON manager Alun Armstrong wants to kick-start a great FA Trophy run to go with Quakers’ excellent FA Cup exploits when City of Liverpool visit Blackwell Meadows this evening,
Armstrong’s side have not played because of Covid restrictions since the defeat at Bristol Rovers in the second round of the FA Cup over a fortnight ago, and the manager is keen to get back to winning ways – and emulate the achievement of Brackley, from the same division as Quakers, who got to Wembley two seasons ago.
“There’s no way we’re taking the Trophy lightly, “ he said. “We must make sure we come out all guns blazing after our break. It would be a great way to top off a difficult season for our supporters by getting to Wembley. They haven’t been able to see the players in the flesh so far this season, and it was so difficult for them not being at our FA Cup matches. ....

DARLINGTON gained a morale-boosting win with a 2-0 FA Trophy victory over City of Liverpool to earn themselves a home tie on Saturday against Telford.
Quakers ,though, should have made the game safe a lot earlier than they did, as they missed several good chances after Luke Charman gave them the lead.
The Scousers almost took the lead on five minutes, when Dominic Reid hit a shot from the edge of the box that took a deflection and went just past the post, with keeper Melvin Minter, in goal instead of Johnny Saltmer, going the wrong way.
