After 12 months of cancelled drafts, the performance horse event has been a welcome beginning to the 2021 season. Campdrafters have travelled far and wide to compete in the Nutrien Classic. BTYSE: Perfect 10 entries by Desmond College students Reporter: ); ); DESMOND College in Newcastle West has a whopping 10 entries in this year’s BT Young Scientist Exhibition. Teacher and young Scientist co-ordinator Donal Enright breaks down the 10 projects. There are 16 students involved – 13 girls and 3 boys – in five individual and five group projects. Five junior, four intermediate and one senior project. Seven in technology, two in mathematical, and one each in physical, chemical and biological categories. Emma O Shea and Rebecca Enright have already hit the headlines with their polarised, anti-bacterial face shield, for use with hurling helmets. Emma and Rebecca were aided in the testing of their product by one Gearoid Hegarty. ....

Reporter: [email protected] Man of the match in the All-Ireland final Gearoid Hegarty has helped two of his Desmond College pupils – Rebecca Enright and Emma O Shea – with their anti-bacterial face shield for hurling helmets ); ); A NATIONAL League medal, Celtic Cross and being hot favourite for Hurler of the Year isn’t enough for Gearoid Hegarty in 2020 – he now has his sights set on the Young Scientist competition! “Hego” to his teammates, it is Mr Hegarty to his students in Desmond College, Newcastle West, two of whom have designed a polarised, anti-bacterial face shield for use with hurling helmets.
