These are just some of the scary firearms the New York City Police Department seized from Staten Islanders during the first three months of 2021 as gun arrests more than doubled in the borough compared to the same period last year, according to data from the NYPD. There have been 43 arrests on the borough this year compared to 17 last. “It’s good news and bad news. It’s good news that we are making the incarcerations. The D.A.’s team works very, very hard to set high bail, but the bad news is that there are more guns on Staten Island,” Assistant Chief Frank Vega, the NYPD borough commander, said in a recent interview with the Staten Island Advance/SILive.com. ....
