Worcester reports 107 new COVID cases in past week, 68 vaccine doses to children in the newly eligible 12-15 age range Updated May 14, 2021; The number of new COVID-19 cases in Worcester continues to drop as the city has reported 107 infections since last Friday. That number represents 63 fewer cases than reported in last week’s update of 170 new cases, according to a statement from the office of Worcester City Manager Edward Augustus Jr. In total, Worcester has seen 23,579 coronavirus cases through the pandemic and 424 residents have died from the virus, which is two more since last week. There are 35 inpatients with COVID-19 at Saint Vincent Hospital and UMass Memorial Health combined, the city said, a decrease of 17 from last week. There are 15 patients in the intensive care unit, which is one less since Tuesday. ....

From USA TODAY Network and wire reports Alabama Montgomery: The Montgomery County Commission voted Tuesday to make the use of face masks in county-owned buildings optional, effective immediately. “Commissioners are strongly encouraging the public and employees to exercise personal responsibility and continue to wash hands, practice physical distancing, and wear masks when appropriate,” County Commission spokeswoman Hannah Hawk said in a release announcing the decision. A municipal mandate remains in place through Sunday that requires the use of masks in most public situations. Many major retail outlets, grocery stores and entertainment venues still require anyone who enters to wear a face mask. A spokesman for one of the area’s largest employers, Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama, also confirmed Tuesday that its workers still will be required to wear masks “for the foreseeable future.” The county required masks to be worn by employees and visitors in all county ....
