The second phase rollout of Digital Switch Over, which commenced in Lagos last week, with over 60 digital channels, is expected to boost job creation through digital content development, writes Emma Okonji Last week, the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, launched the second phase of the country’s Digital Switch Over (DSO) from analogue broadcasting to Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) broadcasting. With the Lagos launch of free DTT viewing, analogue broadcasting in Lagos will be switched off by October this year and for the entire country, analogue will be switched off by December 7, 2022, if the rollout plans are fully implemented. ....

This is part of the timetable in a renewed effort by the federal government to switch Nigeria on to the digital broadcasting system, after two failed attempts. As Lagos goes digital tomorrow, the Federal Capital City, FCT Abuja will follow, May 30th, while the switchover in Kano will happen on June 3; Rivers, July 8; Yobe, July 15; and Gombe, August 12. In the same order, that of Plateau, Kaduna, Kwara, Enugu and Osun states will follow in June, August and September 2021 respectively. ....

Chairman of Digiteam, Mr Edward Amana, a critical stakeholder in the process of the nation’s transition from analogue to digital broadcasting, stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Sunday. He said the committee was not funded to carry out its assigned roles in the Digital Switch Over (DSO) White Paper and that accounted for the delay in the roll out process. “By the specification of the white paper, the Digiteam is supposed to have an oversight over the whole specification for transition from analogue to digital broadcasting in Nigeria. ....
The Nigerian Export-Import Bank (NEXIM) has announced that it is launching a N10 billion export facility for catering to women and youth to enable them take advantage of international trade opportunities. This was disclosed by Stella Okotete, Executive Director, Business Development of NEXIM, at the presentation of the Women And Youth Export Facility (WAYEF) by the bank on Tuesday in Abuja. She added that the WAYEF scheme was launched by the bank to improve the roles played by women and youth in Nigeria’s international trade, and boost export trade participation for the demography, citing that the interest rate under the facility would reduce to 5% by 2022 from the present 9%. ....
