31 May 2021 Expedia Group has announced a major restructure of its executive leadership team as the company changes its operations to fit into four key pillars. Rathi Murthy joins Expedia as the company’s chief technology officer and president of Expedia Services, which includes data and artificial intelligence, e-commerce, payments, and customer experience, focusing on evolving the company’s technical strategy and underlying platform. Most recently, Murthy managed innovations in 5G and the platform technology and infrastructure at Verizon Media. Rathi Murthy Expedia has also appointed Jon Gieselman as its president of Expedia Brands, which will house the group’s consumer-facing businesses. ....

And now, more than a year into the Covid-19 crisis, with margins stretched thin, cash in short supply and buyers and sellers both looking to strengthen their competitive positions through mergers, it has become an active marketplace for agencies that have the capital and drive to grow through acquisitions. Last week, two major acquisitions were announced. Frosch International Travel (No. 14 on Travel Weekly s 2020 Power List) acquired Valerie Wilson Travel (No. 36). 05 May 2021 American Express Global Business Travel (Amex GBT) has made a binding offer to acquire Expedia Group’s corporate travel arm, Egencia. As part of the transaction, Expedia Group would become a shareholder in and enter a long-term, strategic commercial agreement with Amex GBT, which would see the Egencia brand continue to be active in the market. Paul Abbott, CEO of Amex GBT, said: “Our strategy is to provide customers with unparalleled choice by having the best solutions for each managed travel segment that we serve. In Egencia, we would welcome the industry’s leading digital business travel platform. “Egencia would be strengthened by GBT’s complementary technology, enterprise capabilities and cutting-edge content. ....
