Expedia Group has announced a major restructure of its executive leadership team as the company changes its operations to fit into four key pillars.
Rathi Murthy joins Expedia as the company’s chief technology officer and president of Expedia Services, which includes data and artificial intelligence, e-commerce, payments, and customer experience, focusing on evolving the company’s technical strategy and underlying platform.
Most recently, Murthy managed innovations in 5G and the platform technology and infrastructure at Verizon Media.

Expedia has also appointed Jon Gieselman as its president of Expedia Brands, which will house the group’s consumer-facing businesses.

Expedia Group is adding top executives from Apple and Verizon as part of an operational restructuring that also includes the departure of three current executives.
The company will now operate with four key pillars : Expedia Services, Expedia Brands, Expedia Marketplace and Expedia for Business.

Jon Gieselman, previously had of marketing at Apple, will be president of Expedia Brands, which will house the company s consumer-facing businesses and focus on bringing to life unique experiences customers love that connect the world through travel. Jeff Hurt, previously president and co-lead of marketing, will become Expedia Brands COO and report to Gieselman.

After shutting brands like Pillow and ApartmentJet, and striking a deal to spin off Egencia since becoming CEO a year ago, Expedia Group’s Peter Kern led a reorganization of the company that sees a trio of high-profile executives leaving.
Trimming the business unit organization from five units to four and remaking them, Expedia Group appointed Rathi Murthy chief technology officer and president of Expedia Services, and Jon Gieselman the president of Expedia Brands, the company announced Monday.
Leaving the company over the new few months will be Cyril Ranque, president of Travel Partners Group, a 15-year Expedia veteran; Adam Jay, president and co-lead of Marketing, with a decade of Expedia experience, and Tucker Moodey, president of Retail Product and Technology, who was at the company for more than nine years.

Expedia Group has hired top executives from Apple and Verizon Media as the company overhauls its leadership structure and brand after a long period of organizational disarray and declining revenues.
The Seattle travel platform announced Monday morning that Apple marketing head Jon Gieselman will join the company as president of Expedia Brands. Rathi Murthy, who most recently worked with Verizon Media’s 5G and platform technologies as CTO, will become Expedia’s new chief technology officer.
