LAHORE: Women, along with other gender minorities, took to the streets as a part of the Aurat March as they walked from the press club to the PIA Building on Egerton Road to mark the International Women’s Day 2021 on Monday.
The demonstrators gathered outside the Lahore Press Club at around 2pm and began their procession towards the PIA Building where they ended the walk and held a sit-in where they performed the anti-rape anthem. The anthem, A Rapist in Your Path, was originally written in Spanish by the Chilean theatre group, and was later translated into other languages, including Urdu, across the world. ....

The Punjab Assembly’s Standing Committee on Gender Mainstreaming could hold only one meeting in the past two and a half years and a report on the proceedings of the sitting has not been presented in the house.
The ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) terminated the party membership of Uzma Kardar, the chairperson of the standing committee, seven months ago. Her party membership was terminated after an audio recording about the leadership was leaked.
The Gender Mainstreaming Standing Committee has not taken any steps to monitor the Punjab Women Development Department s projects, implement existing laws and enact new legislation. ....

LAHORE: The Punjab Assembly Tuesday unanimously passed a resolution condemning the Indian government’s apathy towards the farmers and committing atrocities against them for the last two months.
The resolution tabled by PML-N member Sardar Ramesh Singh on a private members day, condemned the Hindu fanatic group Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) for unleashing a reign of terror against the farmers, Muslims and other minorities in India.
It warned that the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi was crushing the minorities leaving tens of thousands of Indian farmers at the mercy of harsh cold weather for over two months. ....
