Punjab Assembly flays ruthless treatment of Indian farmers Top Story February 3, 2021 LAHORE: The Punjab Assembly Tuesday unanimously passed a resolution condemning the Indian government’s apathy towards the farmers and committing atrocities against them for the last two months. The resolution tabled by PML-N member Sardar Ramesh Singh on a private members day, condemned the Hindu fanatic group Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) for unleashing a reign of terror against the farmers, Muslims and other minorities in India. It warned that the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi was crushing the minorities leaving tens of thousands of Indian farmers at the mercy of harsh cold weather for over two months. ....
LAHORE: Minister for Health Dr Yasmin Rashid’s statement that people should get ‘vaccinated themselves against Covid-19 at their own risk’ provided fodder to the opposition and the treasury and both sides grilled her for ‘creating confusion on the issue’. In Tuesday’s session, which again started over two hours late, Saeed Akbar Niwani of the PTI was first to wonder: “If the (Punjab) government cannot guarantee safety of the vaccines, why is it importing it? LCWU approves new academic programmes Lahore January 22, 2021 LAHORE:Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) is all set to launch some new academic programmes, including Tourism & Hospitality and Physiotherapy etc. The LCWU Syndicate has approved the launch of these and many other programmes during its 78th meeting. The syndicate also approved setting up of new Department of Software Engineering while academic programmes, including Bachelor of Physiotherapy, MEd (one-year programme), BEd (18 months programme), Bachelor of Tourism & Hospitality, PhD Management Sciences, MPhil Special Education and MBA specialisation were also approved. The syndicate meeting was chaired by the LCWU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Bushra Mirza and was attended by Dr Kanwal Amin, Dr Saiqa Imtiaz, Khurshid A Malik, MPAs Uzma Kardar, Sumera Ahmad, Sadia Sohail Rana and officials from administrative departments. ....

PHOTO: AFP LAHORE: A number of lawmakers from two major political parties resolved to increase the minimum age of marriage for girls in Punjab from 16 to 18 years and make the national identity card a mandatory document as evidence of age at the time of marriage. They also announced to support a relevant amendment act which is pending in the Punjab Assembly and waiting for the approval. This was announced during a press conference on “Say No To Child Brides,” which was held at Lahore Press Club by Bargad a leading youth development organization. MPAs Sadia Sohail Rana, Sumaira Bukhari, Bushra Anjum Butt, Uzma Kardar and Bargad Executive Director Sabiha Shaheen joined the press conference. ....
