Last year, after chemistry professor Mindy Levine was invited to guest-edit a special issue of the journal
Molecules, a group dedicated to the academic boycott of Israel briefly persuaded the journal to rescind the offer unless she consented to removing “Israel” from her published address: “Ariel University, Ariel, Israel.” When she refused, the special issue was canceled, and Levine was scrubbed from the journal’s website.
The protesting group, called the Ariel University Non-Recognition Campaign, wanted Levine’s address listed as “Ariel University, illegal Israeli settlement of Ariel, Occupied Palestinian Territory.” The journal eventually reinstated Levine as guest editor and issued a “Statement of Poli ....

Dame Trelise Cooper apologises after backlash over naming $299 dress 'Trail of Tiers'

New Zealand fashion designer Dame Trelise Cooper has apologised for an “embarrassing mistake” after naming a $299 dress the “Trail of Tiers”. The name bears a close similarity to the forced relocation of Native Americans during the 1830s Trail of Tears.

The Trail of Tears saw an estimated 45,000 Native Americans forced from their ancestral homelands by the US Government at the time. Thousands died along the 8000km relocation, with many falling ill and starving.  
In a statement to 1 NEWS, the Trelise Cooper group said they were “completely unaware” of the meaning of the term. ....
