Soufriere volunteers celebrated on World Redcross Day

Yesterday, Monday May 8, 2021 was observed as World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day.
In St. Vincent and the Grenadines, the day was dedicated to the volunteers and staff of the Red Cross who are reaching people affected by the eruption of La Soufrière, dengue, and COVID-19, and display a commitment to local community action that is unstoppable, a release stated.
“It has been a difficult time for our communities since the eruption of La Soufrière one month ago. The Red Cross teams have been out learning about needs and providing emergency relief to those impacted. Many of our volunteers and staff have been impacted by the evacuations themselves,” said Bernard Morgan, President of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Red Cross Society (SVGRC). ....

Zamfara govt confirms release of Bala Afuro Gusau after one month in captivity

The Zamfara State Government has confirmed the release of Alh. Bala Afuro Gusau, the father of a popular businessman in the state, Hon. Sanusi Bala Sarkin Dawaki Maituta.
A statement from the state’s Commissioner for Information, Ibrahim Dosara, said Bala, who was abducted a month ago by his kidnappers, was released on Saturday.
The commissioner explained that the victim was freed unharmed.
He, however, revealed the state government did not pay ransom to facilitate his release even though the abductors initially demanded the sum of N50 million.
“We are happy to announce that Alh. Bala Afuro Gusau who has been in captivity for over a month now, has been released. ....

The DC stressed upon the concerned to intensify the efforts for conducting of different welfare programmes including blood donation camps and ensure proper utilization of funds towards the weaker sections of the society especially poor, destitute, orphan and widows
He urged upon the participants to volunteer themselves for the Red Cross which is a best platform for serving the needy people. He also highlighted the need for motivation of the people for participation in the Red Cross activities and appreciated the volunteers for serving the people in need.

World Red Cross Day: DRCS Kishtwar provides relief to Bal Ashram inmates

KISHTWAR : To mark the World Red Cross Day 2021, the District Red Cross Society (DRCS) Kishtwar, under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar Ashok Sharma, who is also its Chairman, today distributed the relief material comprising of the eatable items and other daily utility material among the beneficiaries of the Bal Ashram Kishtwar.
Joint Director Planning Mohammad Iqbal; ACR Kishtwar Akhter Hussain Qazi; DSWO, Traiq Parvez Qazi; Red Cross Secretary, Asgar Ali Sheikh; besides other officers and Volunteers were present on the occasion.
The packed material includes Haldi 10 Kg, Mirch Powder 1 Kg, Mustard Oil 48 ltr, Tea 20 Kg, Salt 25 Kg, Dal Chana 25 Kg, Sugar 50 Kg, Life-Boy Soap 30 nos and Rin Soap 30 nos. were handed over to the DSWO Kishtwar. ....
