The Oneida County Board of Elections won’t be party to a protracted legal battle after agreeing to a settlement with the U.S. Department of Justice.
The settlement, announced by the Justice Department on Monday, will bring resolution to a voting rights lawsuit connected to the 2020 election. The Justice Department announced it intended legal action on March 23 before working with the county board of elections to find an agreement.
The settlement requires the Oneida County Board of Elections to develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure all timely submitted voter registration applications are reviewed and processed under the National Voter Registration Act. The board also will train all poll officials and election personnel in provisional ballot requirements dictated by the Help America Vote Act.
