Albany, N.Y. Gov. Andrew Cuomo said today he believes Oneida County’s elections commissioners were right to resign after a series of mistakes in the 22nd Congressional District election.
“It was very concerning what happened,” Cuomo said during a press conference in Albany, “At one point, it comes down to competence and diligence and capacity. To me, it seems like basic incompetence.”
The close race in the district dragged on for months and court proceedings revealed a series of blunders, especially in Oneida County. Errors included a failure to process more than 2,400 applications from new voters who had properly registered at the state Department of Motor Vehicles, among other things.
