New Delhi: In a surprise move, Garhwal MP Tirath Singh Rawat was on Wednesday chosen by the BJP state legislative party as its leader. He is now set to become the next chief minister of the state. Though Tirathâs name was not among those being discussed for the post, he emerged as the dark horse to replace Trivendra Singh Rawat, who resigned from the post on Tuesday, as the new CM. He is now scheduled to take oath at 4 pm on Wednesday

The Congress on Tuesday said the resignation of Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat was an eyewash to hide the government s failures , and urged the President to dismiss the BJP dispensation in the state. Congress party in-charge for Uttarakhand Devendra Yadav said at a press conference that the act shows the admission by the BJP of its government s failure in fulfilling the aspirations of people of the state. He said the BJP government should resign and go to the people to seek fresh elections. Yadav said this shows that nothing in the name of development has taken place in Uttarakhand under the BJP rule, except corruption .

Beleaguered Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat, who came back to Dehradun on Tuesday, is expected to make an important announcement this evening, sources close to the CM office said. Most probably CM is going to address a press conference where he may make an important announcement, a source said.
Earlier, Rawat met BJP President J.P. Nadda hours after a crucial meeting of Home Minister Amit Shah with the party chief at New Delhi on Sunday evening amid a serious discontent from a section of the state BJP MLAs and MPs, who are bitterly opposed to the Chief Minister s style of functioning.

New Delhi: The Delhi Police Wednesday informed the Delhi High Court that it would provide round-the-clock security to Nilam Katara, mother of murdered business executive Nitish Katara, whenever she visits the capital from Dehradun as she fears for her life.
Justice Yogesh Khanna was informed by the police that the officials would also protect the accommodation where she would be staying during her visit to Delhi for medical treatment or court cases. The police said Nilam Katara shall intimate them through e-mail at least 72 hours prior to her visit.
