Plastic pollution is never far away in Southeast Asia. It s in the streets, the rivers, the forests, the beaches and almost anywhere else you care to look. According to a 2018 United Nations Environment Programme (Unep) analysis of plastics production, demand and waste, half of the world s plastic is produced in Asia and around 40 per cent of all plastic is consumed in the Asia-Pacific region. F&B manufacturing in Philippines and Thailand shrinks while Vietnam and Indonesia see growth: Oxford Economics report

Philippines’ and Thailand’s F&B manufacturing sectors shrunk amid the COVID-19 pandemic last year, while Vietnam and Indonesia saw positive growth, according to a new report.
Oxford Economics estimates that Philippines and Thailand experienced a 7% and 4% drop respectively in their F&B manufacturing sector.
For Vietnam and Indonesia, their F&B manufacturing sectors were estimated to have expanded by 5% and 3% in 2020 respectively.
In the report, F&B manufacturing comprised the production of food and non-alcoholic beverages.
Along with F&B distribution (retail, catering, hospitality) and agricultural production, the three components make up the main agri-food sector. ....

Colouring foods in India: Industry players optimistic amid clean label trend and rules changes
Suppliers offering colouring foods are optimistic of growth in India, in part due to enhanced regulations, but also the broader consumer move towards clean label preferences.
The Indian regulator FSSAI recently introduced that Food Safety and Standards (Food Products Standards and Food Additives) Tenth Amendment Regulations (2020), which recognises Colouring Foods as a separate category from synthetic and natural colours, the latter which are considered additives.
The new standard now considers Colouring Foods as a food ingredient, for the primary function of colouring.
Colouring Foods must be made from edible fruits, vegetables, spices or herbs, using water extraction that retain the original characteristics of the source material’s colour, taste and odour. ....

As a sequel to the Summit, the 11th CII Food Safety Awards Ceremony was organised to recognise role models and best in class food business operators on food safety excellence and provide a framework for continual improvement.
The glittering Award Ceremony was organized virtually on 18th December 2020. Rita Teaotia, chairperson FSSAI graced the grand occasion.
“It is heartening to note that despite the pandemic situation, CII’s Food Safety Award program 2020 went ahead as a Virtual programme while retaining its robust approach in evaluating nominations for awards. I congratulate all winners and applicants who accepted the challenge to compete for the awards despite such difficult times.
