The University of Georgia Student Government Association held a seminar on equity, diversity and inclusion for Senators, and the educational affairs committee discussed a resolution that recommends UGA continue supporting the HOPE and Zell B. Miller Scholarships at a meeting Tuesday. SGA has not passed a piece of legislation about the continued approval of HOPE and Zell since 2011 when changes were last made to the scholarships. âThe idea is to have support on the record in years where there isnât potential change as a way to make a [stronger argument of support] whenever there is change,â Senator Bradley Howard said. ....

The University of Georgia Student Government Association unanimously passed a resolution to hold an American Red Cross-sponsored blood drive on March 16 in the Memorial Hall Ballroom from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Senator Christopher Jue authored the resolution, saying giving blood is important during the COVID-19 pandemic. He said there is an increasing need for blood, and some high schools have not been able to hold typical blood drives due to the pandemic. âWe, as students, are really a great body to be able to give during this time when there is such a lack of blood,â Jue said. Each person who donates blood as part of the drive will also receive a COVID-19 antibody test. Those with antibodies can contribute to research and help current COVID-19 patients by donating plasma. ....
As the University of Georgiaâs Student Government Association continues to campaign, the executive tickets met for a virtual debate Wednesday night where they discussed COVID-19, diversity and inclusion and mental health. There are three tickets for the upcoming election â Belong, Bridge and Voice. The Georgia Political Review moderated the debate. Platform for a pandemic All three tickets had detailed opinions about the transition from mostly online classes to in-person as the distribution of campus vaccines widen, as well as the acclimation of freshman and transfer students during COVID-19. The Bridge ticket, comprised of Jeremiah de Sesto, Hannah-Rose Basson and Oba Samaye, wants the colleges within UGA to have a uniform response to the transition to in-person classes. They also want EITS to provide chargers and technology for longer periods of time. ....
