FORT HOOD â The new Secretary of the Army toured Fort Hood on Thursday, her first visit to a major U.S. Army installation since assuming her duties in May.
Wormuth visited Fort Hood to receive updates on III Corps People First initiative, meet with junior enlisted Soldiers, tour barracks, family housing and motorpools.
âPeople are the Armyâs number one priority,â said Wormuth. âAs (one of) our Armyâs largest installations, I wanted to hear directly from the Soldiers, families, and civilians about the unique capabilities and challenges here at Fort Hood.â

The Allied forces, now designated XIII Corps, included the British 7th Armored Division, commanded by Maj.-Gen. Michael OâMoore Creagh; the 4th Indian Division, commanded by Maj.-Gen. Frank Messervy; and the 22nd Guards Brigade, commanded by Brig.-Gen. Ian D. Erskine.
It was a feeble attempt at relieving the siege of Tobruk, which today has a population of 120,000, and is approximately 90 miles west of the Egyptian border, 270 miles east of Benghazi, 260 miles east of Agedabia and 630 miles east of the Libyan capital of Tripoli.

III Corps and Fort Hood will soon have a new deputy commander, according to a news release from the Defense Department.
In announcing general officer assignments on Monday, the Army Chief of Staffâs office said Maj. Gen. Steven W. Gilland, commanding general of the 2nd Infantry Division (Combined), Eighth Army, Republic of Korea, will become the deputy commanding general of III Corps at Fort Hood.
Gilland was commissioned from the United States Military Academy in 1990. As an Infantry officer, he served in a variety of tactical assignments in Air Assault, Armor, Mechanized Infantry, Ranger and Special Operations units. He has served in the 24th Infantry Division (Mechanized), 2nd Infantry Division (Mechanized), 75th Ranger Regiment, U.S. Army Special Operations Command, the 1st Cavalry Division, the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) and the United States Military Academy.
