Three Hefajat-e-Islam leaders were arrested in connection the cases filed over violence in 2013 and March this year, and four more, including three top Hefajat leaders, were placed on remand yesterday.
The Detective Branch of police yesterday arrested Hefajat s Assistant Secretary General and Bangladesh Khelafat Majlish Nayeb-e-Amir Khurshid Alam Kasemi from his house in the capital s Mohammadpur yesterday afternoon, said Mahbub Alam, joint commissioner (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
Khelafat Majlish s Joint Secretary Mufti Sharafat Hossain was held from Mirpur area around 5:00pm. He was involved in the Hefajat s violence in 2013 and March this year, Mashiur Rahman, deputy commissioner (DB-Gulshan) of DMP, told The Daily Star. ....

Dhaka, April 17 : Twenty-four more people have been arrested in Bangladesh in connection with the massacre by the militants of the militant outfit Hefazat-e-Islam. So far, 54 cases have been filed and 261 militants have been arrested over the violence.
On March 27, at least five persons were killed and around 50 others, including 25 policemen, injured in attack by the Hefazat militants and clashes between members of the law enforcement agencies and the militants at Nandanpur in Sadar upazila.
Vandalism by the militant outfit Hefazat-e-Islam was carried out in Brahmanbaria from March 26 to 31 March. The arrests were made from different parts of the district, according to the special branch of Brahmanbaria district police on Friday. ....

Apr 17 (IANS): Twenty-four more people have been arrested in Bangladesh in connection with the massacre by the militants of the militant outfit Hefazat-e-Islam. So far, 54 cases have been filed and 261 militants have been arrested over the violence.

DHAKA: A 27-year-old Bangaladeshi Islamic preacher has again been apprehended by the police, this time under the Digital Security Act (DSA) for allegedly making an anti-state speech and inciting disorder, according to media reports on Thursday.
Rafiqul Islam Madani, Director of Sawtul Hera Madrasa, was picked up from his ancestral home in northern Bangladesh s Netrokona district on Wednesday, Director of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Legal and Media, Commander Khandaker Al Moin said. ....

A 27-year-old Bangladeshi Islamic preacher has again been apprehended by the police, this time under the Digital Security Act (DSA) for allegedly making an anti-state speech and inciting disorder, according to media reports on Thursday.
Madani, popularly known as shishu bokta (child preacher), has been sued under the Digital Security Act (DSA) for allegedly making anti-state statements, as well as for instigating unrest, The Dhaka Tribune reported. This is the second time in less than a month that Madani has been arrested. On March 25, the police apprehended Madani, along with 30 others, from Motijheel thana in Dhaka district for protesting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi s visit here. On that occasion, Madani was released from custody within a few hours. ....
